Your Child's First Visit

The American Academy of Pediatrics, The American Dental Association, and The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry all recommend establishing a “Dental Home” for your child by one year of age. Children who have a dental home are more likely to receive appropriate preventive and routine oral health care.

Prior to their appointment, tell your child that the dentist is a friendly doctor who will help your teeth stay healthy. Talk about the visit in a positive, age appropriate way, as you would about any new experience. Avoid projecting any negative feelings you may have regarding a dental visit, being careful to avoid negative words. A visit to our office can be a very pleasant adventure for both you and your child.

At Your Child's Pace

At our practice, we understand and cherish the uniqueness of each child, recognizing their individual sensitivities. If your child feels nervous, we’re flexible and may modify the appointment to ensure their comfort. Our goal is simple: every child leaves our office with a beaming smile. Positive experiences and encouraging words from both our team and caregivers are key in fostering trust and confidence in your little ones that will last a lifetime.

The visit might include a thorough cleaning of your child’s teeth and a fluoride treatment, tailored to their age and comfort level. X-rays are performed judiciously, usually starting around age 4, to identify hidden tooth decay and monitor the growth of permanent teeth. We also conduct a developmental check at every visit. When needed, we refer to trusted local orthodontists. Should we identify the need for additional treatments, like fillings, we’ll arrange further appointments. Join us at Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics of Livermore for a journey of dental health tailored to your child’s unique needs!”
